Can't scan because HP Solution Center cannot detect my HP printer

Am unable to get HP Solutions Center to open. Recently installed drivers and software for several HP All-in-one printers. The printers work fine as printers, but am unable to scan. Have followed instructions from HP to delete any superfluous imaging devices in device manager.

When launching HP Solution Center, a small grey screeen opens, followed by this error message: "No HP devices have been detected. HP Solution Center will close now." when I click "OK", it does in fact close.

HP Solution Center will fail to detect the printer even while IT IS ACTUALLY PRINTING A DOCUMENT!

Saw a reference to Solution Center problems in the HP Forum suggesting a Winsock problem. But I wasn't sure it applied to my situation and looked scary to carry out.

Any thoughts anyone?

Well, if the winsock problem involved running winsockxpfix, I would try it.  That program won't muck up your system.

Have you powered off your printer, unplugged the usb connection and reconnected the usb into a different port?

Yes. Powered off, unplugged the USB, but didn't try a different port. Will try this and winsockxpfix tonight. Thanks.

Uninstall the imaging devices from the  device manager after closing all the hp softwares.
Rename the twain_32 folder in the c:\windows.
Unplug the usb and reconnect it. Wait for some time check if it asks for the installationmedia . If yes insert the cd and follow the steps.

Oh My Gosh!!!!!!!!   I CAN SCAN!!!!!!!

I tried delete (via Add/Remove Programs) every instance of HP software on my computer. And with them, the printers, too.

Reinstalled the basic corporate drivers - didn't work - deleted.

Installed the full driver pack- 280 Mb dowload. There was a bigger one, but I chose this slightly smaller one. Not sure why. Now I have a new problem:

HP Director installed instead of the much hyped HP Solution Center. When I TRIED to scan,

CONTINUED..... got an error message saying another program was controlling my device. Unplugged the printer, plugged it back in, restored factory default settings, and VOILA, I successfully scanned 2 pages from the document feeder into Word.

Thanks.

I am having a similar issue, same error.  I have ran the uninstaller provided by HP through all 4 steps and tried reinstalling the software for my printer.

System is an HP laptop w/ Vista Ultimate "64 Bit"

Printer is an HP L7780

I have tried just about everything and am about to reformat my system.  Thing is that it was working for a while and now for some odd reason stopped.  I am thinking it has something to do with an update.  I have deleted all programs associated with the printer and HP Solutions Center.

Ideas ??

Microsoft Windows XP is the sixth release of the NT series of operating systems, and was the first to be marketed in a variety of editions: XP Home and XP Professional, designed for business and power users. The advanced features in XP Professional are generally disabled in Home Edition, but are there and can be activated. There were two 64-bit editions, an embedded edition and a tablet edition.
