Document sorting when using categorized columns

I have 50 documents in a view -
Every document has a number field called 'sort' and tagged 1-50
Every document also have a groups, a-d
Every document is in one of the groups a-d.

I would like the views to sort by 'sort'  (hidden) (column 1) and then by categorized 'group (column 2) to acheive this

> group a
>> doc = 1
>> doc sort= 2
>> doc sort =3
> group d
>> doc =4
>> doc = 5
> group b
>> doc 6
>> doc 7
>> doc 8
>> doc 9
>> doc 10

etc etc

at the moment, column 2 value (group) repeats everytime. and is not grouping as I would hope.

If you understand this, you are genius.

hidden column should be sorted by group and categorized.
2nd column should be sorted by Doc Filed "sort" asceding.

I hope this helps !
Actually, it is the other way around. Sort is hidden, col 2 is Group categorized.

I am still ot sure if this is what you want, and I think that you need to revisit you criteria, since it seems very odd.

I hope this helps !

hi sysExpert,

I tried both of those before i posted the query

what i want is for the documents to all be sorted in order 'sort' field
so
1
2
3
4
5
6
7
but within that group in their 'groups'
so the view is easier to navigate

c
>>>>>1
>>>>>2
>>>>>3
>>>>>4
d
>>>>>5
>>>>>6
 etc

i do not want the grouping to affect the sort

If

group A is sorted/categorized,  and col1

Then col2 should be your hidden column,
   formula @Right("000" +  @Text(Sort);3),
   Sorting>> Ascending.
COl3 can be  ">>>> " + @Right("000" +  @Text(Sort);3)

To display the sort values in a text.

Basically what happens with Notes is that 1-9 sort correctly and then 10 + don't.  So, you make these values 001, 002, 003, 004 and sort by those.

hi marilyng,

no as sysexpert says this doesn't work either.

documents 1-6 above must be in that order and  can be sorted by 'sort.
then all i want to display them in that order with a expanding and collapsing section by 'group'

1-4  could  be group b
5-8  could be group x
9-24 could be group rt

the group names should not be used to sort, only to create the expanding collapsing sections for ease of use.

is that any clearer, or is this just not sane..
