Sql server - Need to encrypt data in some tables

I have some employee and customer personal information that I need to encrypt in sql server database tables. I would like to encrypt the data in those tables and looking for some ways to accomplish that.

What angelIII said is absolutely correct...unless you need to export the encrypted fields to some client over an open channel (say, by email). Gotta face it, not everyone has a secure Web site with VPN tunneling. Outside of this, use angelIII's recommendations and rethink encryption.
