asked on

shared laser printer

Hi,

We would like to purchase a 'shared' laser printer (black and white) that can print on both sides. It should work via the network and there are about 10 people.

I am just wondering whether you could recommend a printer.

Many thanks.

HP has a "help me choose" tool, which will walk you through the basic needs of your printer and recommend a product:
http://h30216.www3.hp.com/ASA/Controller?adi_hasScript=1&_AD_195R22=100&adi_scriptSID=7FB06F2FBB78AB7385C758871FDD0AC5&sysid=84&appid=10447&_ad_stoken=hpshcons&hide=att-wirelesstype&att-price=comm&comm=no&ifilter=att-paper%20width&que-104471=&que-104472=

By "shared" do you want a pc that connects directly to the network (tcp/ip), or one that is connected to a pc and then shared?

So you recommend HP? I will have a look at it.

I guess you mean: "do you want a printer that connects directly to the network (tcp/ip)"? Yes.

There seems to be a need for color printing. Is it still very expensive to run a color laser printer? Do you have any opinions on that?
someone recommended these HP models:

4250DTN

or

P3005DN

What do you think?

Thanks
Since you do need tcp/ip, when you're looking at HP printers all their network printers will have "n" at the end of the model.
The 4250 is a nice printer, we have a few of them.  You would need the 4250DTN for dual-sided printing.  It's faster than the 2015, if you have the budget for it I would recommend the 4250.
The P3005DN is also a good printer.  The biggest difference between it and the 4250 is the number of pages per month and print speed.  Either would work depending on your anticipated volume of print jobs.

As to a color printer, yes it does get fairly expensive to run a color laser printer.  Color cartridges are not cheap.  Printer companies tend to sell the printers for a low price, then make their money from cartridge sales.  If you drum it into your user's heads that they only print color when absolutely necessary and stick to B&W otherwise you can cut replacement toner costs down quite a bit.  If you don't have a large need for color printing, I would recommend the B&W laserjet and then a small DeskJet for color jobs.
I guess you do not mean "number of pages per month" but "number of pages per minute" (-;

Any suggestions for a color laser printer that can also print b&w without using the expensive colour drums (how much is a color drum?)
