asked on

Game will not launch?

I'm trying to play a pc game.  I've installed it and played it all the way through before, but this time, whenever I launch the program, the loading screen pops up, and then nothing.  When I check the processes tab, it says the program is running, but the game doesn't display.  I've updated all the drivers and directx and I've got no luck.  I have even gone so far as to reformat the entire pc and start from scratch.  What do you think?

is there an update for the game? you might want to update or patch the game if there is one available.
What game are you trying to play? what are your machine specs, video card, ram, cpu etc.

knowing what game you are talking about would be very helpful.

does your system meat the recomended specs?

is there a process in the process tab taking up all your cpu?

could there be a messagebox awaiting a response hidden behind the game load screen?

is this a legal copy of the game, does it need the cd to run, are you trying to use a no cd crack or daemon tools to play the game?

is there a firewall software blocking the app from trying to check a website?

also you could check your event log to see if there any errors.  start -> right click on my computer -> goto manage -> click on event viewer, and check the logs for application and system.

apologies.

Neverwinter Nights.

yes it meets the specs, I've played it on this pc before.

no, there aren't extra processes running, and I have never seen a message box pop up.  the loader screen comes on, and it appears to be loading, but just stops.  it's only listed as running in the processes tab.

yes it is a copy I paid for that I've used to play in the past.

I tried adding the program as an exception in windows firewall.  that was unsuccessful.

and I did not see any errors reported.  only info logs where my virus scanner had performed a random file scan.

and thank you for your responses.   your assistance is appreciated.

last question, when you say it freezes during loading, do you mean you were already in the game and are trying to load a new game/level/saved game, or that it freezes at the splash screen right after you click the icon in windows.

right at the splash screen.
