Citrix/Sonic Web portal - your session has expired you must log in again

Windows Server 2003
Citrix PS4 with IIS6
Sonic Wall SSL-VPN giving access to citrix web
Sonic Wall Firewall
through the Sonic Wall portal if i connect to a web (HTTP) created portal all works fine. however i have to have the citrix web client already installed. this will obviously make it harder for my users to connect as i think my Gran knows more about IT than they do!!!
SO...
I want to have them connect to a Sonic Wall created Citrix (HTTP) portal which will automatically download the active x and citrix clients to them. Up to now pretty simple.
however
on the first connection all is fine, but after that each time the user tries to connect to the citrix (HTTP) portal they get the following error
Your session has time out you must log in agan
they log all the way out, log all the way back in and get the same error.
if they connect through the Web portal all works fine every time.
any ideas greatly appreciated.

Is the web portal on a SSL connection (https) by any chance? Are you using the Secure Gateway from Citrix?
