asked on

two email servers with the same mx record

Hi

I have a user who is trying to email an external customer but there seems to be a delay or sometimes the cusomer doesn't receive the emails. I have done an email test and it shows that the external customer has two email servers with the same preference value, but one of the servers seems to be permanantly down. In this case would the email server be chosen at random and if the one chosen was the server that was down, the email would fail.

Cheers

I would recommend that the preference values be adjusted.  If the one server is no longer in service, they should consider removing the record.

ASKER

Hi
i agree that the preferences should be adjusted, but as this is an external customer I am unable to do so. What would happen to the emails if they are sent to the server that was down.
