Machine loses IP connection

I have added a new laptop to our network.  For some reason, it keeps losing its connection to the network, can't see the server, can't ping internally, etc.  It comes back for a minute or so, then disappears again.  Any ideas?

could it be a bad cable? try connecting it with a known working cable.

Also the nic card could be bad.

Another thing to check is any software firewall issues.

Also, what kind of network are you connecting to? a domain, or workgroup.  Is it static ip, or dynamic ip?

Try ping with the -t option eg ping 102.178.1.2 -t which pings repeatedly until CTRL/C is pressed if there is an intermittent NIC fault you will see occasional  glitches
Does it disconnect completly? (status light goes out, windows lists it as "disconnected")? You might also try forcing the speed / duplex to match whatever the switch it's plugged in to is set to. If its a bad cable you may also have some luck forcing the connection speed down to 10 / half.
