DEP Error for Windows Explorer

For some reason, lately, When I'm adjusting my computer's volume, I get a Data Execution Prevention error saying that it has closed Windows Explorer to protect me. When I close the message, I get an error saying that Explorer crashed and when I click "Close" nothing else happens (Explorer doesn't close). So it's not a very big deal but I'm wondering why it does that.

Actually, it happened again when I opened WMP. So I don't know if it has to do with the volume but it's still a good possibility. Also, I found this in my event viewer:

Faulting application explorer.exe, version 6.0.2900.2180, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x02510774.

Hmm, after I used chdsk, I haven't had the error for a while. But do you know how to disable DEP (or at least for Windows Explorer) if it happens again? Thanks
Thanks for the points... I'll get back to you on disabling DEP.

I think I figured it out but it didn't work. I open the control panel > "System" > "Advanced" tab > "Settings" under "Performance" > "Data Execution Prevention" > "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except for those I select:" > check "Windows Explorer" > click "Apply". It didn't work because after I did that and played some audio, explorer would crash and this time, it would really close when I clicked the "Close" button.
I think that setting requires a reboot to take affect...

Yep, I did and it seemed to make it worse because explorer really crashed and closed. Before it said it crashed but when I clicked "Close" nothing happened.

Microsoft Windows XP is the sixth release of the NT series of operating systems, and was the first to be marketed in a variety of editions: XP Home and XP Professional, designed for business and power users. The advanced features in XP Professional are generally disabled in Home Edition, but are there and can be activated. There were two 64-bit editions, an embedded edition and a tablet edition.
