Hello jimlo1:

I understand you to mean that the unit will not detect the printer after it has gone into off-line 'power save' mode.  Is this correct?

If so, you should be able to change settings on the printer to keep it from going into 'power save' mode (look at manual/control panel settings on printer and see if you can set the power save time out to '0').

Otherwise, I assume that power cycling the printer and jet-direct will bring things back on-line, yes?

Hello jimlo1:

Sorry I'm so slow in responding.

I was refering to the OKI printer - I thought it was going into power save mode.  Is it?  Many printers are designed to shut down after a specified time to save power.  If the OKI is doing this, then the JetDirect won't 'see' it and returns an error to the host computer. Check the front panel lights - is there an 'ON LINE' light?  Is it still on when the printer doesn't work?

I can't find any information on 'power save' modes in Jet Direct units themselves - it is usually managed by the printer they are attached to.

Is the JetDirect is a network to parallel port type?

Perhaps you could give me the model number and serial number of the Jet Direct unit - I might be able to find the documentation on the HP site.
