Problem Getting Into BIOS

I have an interesting problem.  I have a motherboard with bad PS2 connectors, so PS2 keyboards/mice don't work on this system, USB keyboards/mice work fine.

On most computers there is a setting in the BIOS that allows support for USB keyboards/mice to work from power on.  I believe this setting is disabled in BIOS because USB keyboards/mice don't work until windows is loaded.

I need to reinstall XP on this machine but I need to press a key to boot from the XP CD, and thats not possible the way things are set at the moment.

Is there any way to get into BIOS without pressing a key, maybe some secret utility disc or something?

I have already tried resetting the BIOS to default by using the clear BIOS jumper.

The motherboard is an ASUS P4R800-VM.

You MIGHT be able to use a boot disk designed for your OS...

Check http://www.bootdisk.com/

I ran into the same problem once except my PS 2 ports weren't bad, I just didn't have a PS2 keyboard at the time.    If they are bad on your system, its probably time to replace it.

If the bootdisk doesn't work then you are about out of options.

Good luck!

SOLVED:  What I ended up doing was a BIOS upgrade, which luckily had the USB legacy support enabled by default.  USB keyboard now works from power up, all problems resolved.

Unfortunately, like many of the questions I ask here, I solved it myself.  I just don't have a way to mark it as such.

A personal computer is a general-purpose computer whose size, capabilities and price make it useful for individuals, and is intended to be operated directly by an end-user with no intervening computer time-sharing models that allowed systems to be used by many people, usually at the same time. Personal computers may be connected to a local area network (LAN), either by a cable or a wireless connection, and through that to the Internet. A personal computer may be a laptop computer or a desktop computer running an operating system such as Windows, Linux or Macintosh OS.
