SSL setup and MOSS 2007

We have MOSS 2007 installed an working great.  We use host headers so both the portal web app and the mysite web app can use port 80.  We bought a wildcard certificate and used the MS way to add the host headers to port 443 on the two webapps(the sercurebindings using adsutil.vbs)  We want everyone to use https inside or outside our network, so we set the AAM for both to be https.  if i type in http://portal.domain.com it redirects me to https://portal.domain.com(that is what i want).  From the top level of the portal if i click on the mysite link it errors out i get the generic error that a problem occured.  But if I type in https://mysite.domain.com/personal/username it works.  So the link https://mysite.domain/_layouts/mysite.aspx is the one having issues.  Any body else seeing this, this is microsofts recomeneded way of setting this up.  Thanks for the help

Have you updated the Alternate Access Mappings for the MySite web site?  The information in your question leads me to think that you've updated IIS and it's working with SSL.  I'm thinking that the SharePoint server is not configured to use SSL for the MySite.

Check that the Alternate Access Mappings are correct for your MySite.  Open up the Central Administration site.  Select Operations and then click Alternate Access Mappings under the Global Configuration section.  Find the URL for your MySite and update it to use HTTPS.  On the right side of the page, select your site from the Alternate Access Mapping Collection dropdown list.  Once the site URL is displayed, select the Edit Public URL's menu option.  There you'll see all of the options for URL's for your site.  Any url that is entered will direct a user to the site.  However, once the user has reached the site, it's the URL that's listed as the "Default" that will be displayed in the address bar.  If you've set the Default to "http://" then it will won't use SSL.  Be sure that the url is "https://".

Hope that helped.
