Dialer

I need to find out how to get a "dialer" so I can test a modem on a machine that does not have an internet service to dial up to. I don't want to give back the machine until I am really sure that this modem works. Can you help me?

You can also go into network neighborhood and set up a new connection. Go through the steps...acting like you have an ISP...just use your own phone number. If it dials, most likely the modem is working.

Depending on where you live, you can also do a google search for free dialup internet. There are plenty of companies that offer free internet with ads...but it will atleast help you test.

Use Winfax to check the dialing + capability to send fax as well :-), if you can not find winfax then
you can easily add the any of the available component from Control Panel>Add/Remove programs>Add/Remove Windows Components
but you will be needing CD of your operating system.

from a command prompt:

echo ATDT######### > COM?

where ######## is a phone number and the ? is the com port the modem is setup to act like.
