Exchange Server is down Information Store will not start and getting virtual root error

I am having trouble with my exchange server.  It is running windows server 2003, exchange 2003 Black Berry Enterprise.  Last night we had a storm and i got a call this morning stating that the users could not login.  I checked the server and i get the following errors in event viewer.

The server was unable to add the virtual root '/' for the directory '/Internet Newsgroups' due to the following error: The parameter is incorrect.  The data is the error code

The Microsoft Exchange Information Store service terminated with service-specific error 0 (0x0).

not sure if Error code -2147467259 is related, however, I will like to disable antivirus completely to rule it out, also make sure it's not scanning your exchange database/log directory. I saw way too many AV misconfiguration causing store mount issues.

The other three are very general errors, they are rather results than cause of the store not mount issue.

This morning i uninstalled the antivirus that was on it and i tried to restart the information store and it would do the same thing.  I had AVG Mail Server Ed.  and it was about to expire, so i uninstalled it as one of my trouble shooting steps

if AV was uninstalled, who was reporting "rror code -2147467259 returned from virus scanner initialization routine"?

I installed NAV this afternoon.  I will uninstall it and attempt to start the info store

if uninstall AV didn't help, follow the steps below

1. I believe there still be error in application log you didn't post that contains the cause. Try to f ind out the very first error. Or save and clear your current application log, try to start IS again, then it's easier to find out the error we want

2. verify if your db is consistant
    eseutil /mh drive:\path\dbName.pri

3. if it's consistant, move all *.log file to a safe place, mount the store, otherwise go on
4. verify that you have all needed logs
in the output of step 2, you will see a line says "log reqired", note down the number, for example it's 000A
5. do you have edb000A.log? what is the last number in log file sequence?
6. you will probably have edb0008.log or edb0009.log, but not edb000A.log. run
eseutil /ml e00.log  (supposed you have on one storage group)
    what is the lGeneration number?

9 if it's 000A, then you have all require files to bring your DB back to consistant, otherwise you have to find out where the log file(s) gone. if you have file-level AV installed (or previous installed), it's very likely been moved/quaranteened, you need to restored them.

10 be careful when you restore from AV because it may overwrite the existing file.
11. once all file in place, check their lGeneration number by runnint "eseutil /ml", rename them respectively, make the last one in sequence e00.log
12. bring your DB online.

if you somehow lose something, either repaire you DB or restore from backup.

Also, Right now there is no antivirus installed on the server, But a am still seeing an icon for the AVG antivirus under the system manager / servers.
