Exchange MTA Errors after decommisioning Server

One of our clients asked us to remove an old server reference (COMMSERVER) from System Manager, this server was an Exchange 5.5 box.  I used ADSI edit to remove the reference from the Configuration\Services\Microsoft Exchange\CN=Wilberforce Chambers\Administrative Groups\CN=New Square\Servers\  container.  however this has caused the following errors to be logged which are filling the event logs up.

was the old server holding any roles?
check the public folder replication properties for the old exchange 5.5 server name.
if it is present then remove it from the list of replicas

I don't belive that it was, it has been gone for about 2-3 years now.  incidently those errors have subsided after about 30mins, I am now left with the following one:

do you have any mail stuck in the queues for the old server?
the above errors seems to be coming when the existing server is not able to contact the old server
is the ADC still installed?
can you see the SRS in the ESM?

The old server no longer appears in System Manager as I removed it with ADSIedit, I'm not sure what you mean by ADC (Active Directory Connector?) if so no as the Server has been gone for a couple of years.

SRS - not sure what this stands for

Thanks
SRS is Site replication service
if it is still available then it should be in the ESM under tools.

Thanks for clearing that up - yes SRS is there
the SRS should not be there because the 5.5 does not exist

you can follow the following article. you might have to ignore some steps as the 5.5 server does not exist.
