SBS 2003 Not assigning IP addresses

Hi there,

I have been running a machine for 3 weeks without any issues whatsoever. Suddenly today when a laptop decided it was time to re-connect to the network, it could not retrieve an IP address.

I am running an SBS2003 machine and had it as the DHCP server. There are no other DHCP servers on the network apart from a wireless router which has the option disabled. THe strange thing is that it only happened yesterday/today so I am not sure what is going on.

I have tried the following:

1. REstarting the DHCP server
2. Restarting the Server
3. Re-creating the DHCP scope
4. Unauthorizing and re-authorizing with Active Directory.

For some reason the computer just cannot get an IP. All machines can ping the server (those with static IPs) and if I enable the wireless router as the DHCP server instead of the SBS2003 all computers get an IP and can also ping the server.

Please let me know of any ideas!

Thanks,

Gabs

NOthing it just complained that it had no credentials configured for use with Dynamic DNS.  HOwever seeing as this is for a home client that goes out via a Netgear wireless router that is not stopping it.
Can you post IPconfig/all of server and workstation please.
Is the laptop time synced with server. If not time sync you won't get an IP.

Hi there everyone, sorry come down with a case of the flu.

I will post an IPconfig/all as soon as I can and will try the answer from techsoeasy.

The only thing I do not understand is why it just decided to randomly stop assigning leases. Will keep you posted.
Well, wait a minute... you said that there was "NOTHING" in the event logs... yet you say it said had no credentials configured for use with Dynamic DNS?  If you saw that, then there should have been an event 1056 in the System Event Log which had the following information:

"The DHCP service has detected that it is running on a domain controller and has no credentials configured for use with Dynamic DNS registrations initiated by the DHCP service. This is not a recommended security configuration. Credentials for Dynamic DNS registrations may be configured using the command line "netsh dhcp server set dnscredentials" or via the DHCP Administrative tool. "

This happens when you reinstall DHCP on a Windows 2003 Server and you can easily fix that if you follow the steps outlined here:

Sorry I have completely forgotten I posted this question and have been away for a bit.

Thanks TechSoEasy for your help. For some reason the server decided to start giving out IPs again after an update. Let alone the fact that setting up the VPN side decided to work as well!

Your steps did get the server re-assigning IPs again and it went down again because someone decided that putting a new wireless router without my knowledge was a good idea. DHCP conflicts arose!

I am sorry moderators for not posting for so long.
