Tape Library Veritas BackupExec 9.1

I have a Compaq TL891 Storage library at revision 5.14 firmware.  It has 1 tape drive installed which is a TZ89.  The jumpers on the back are set, terminator in place, and connecting to an adaptec 2944us scsi card.  The scsi card is seen by windows.  In the bios of the scsi card it scans and finds the tape library and tape drive.  Windows however sees the tape library as a generic medium changer, and sometimes it is not listed in device manager.  We are using BackupExec 9.1 for windows servers.  Backup exec will only see the tape drive, and it's status is offline, it is not seeing the library.  Any ideas on what to try.  I have tried the HP L&TT tools 4.2 and it sees both devices.  I have tried installing veritas drivers through backupexec, and removing them etc, doesnt seem to make much difference.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, this is are last 9.1 version, we have another at versiod 10D.  Now here is my question.  I agree that the Veritas drivers should be used, and that is the info i've found everywhere.  How can I find Veritas drivers.  Through backupexec it has the options to install them, but doesnt seem to change the driver versions in device manager.  Is there a download and I can just install them myself?
Any other special install procedures for tape libraries in Veritas?  Has usually been pretty straight forward to configure tapes and libraries on other installations / servers, this one is just being very very difficult.

Thanks andyalder.  I will let you know how that goes.
I am assuming that the microsoft drivers may get reinstalled by default when I restart.  Should I stop the plug and play service you think?
No need to stop P&P service. That works only on newly-installed hardware where there are no drivers already.

Ok.  I will give a try to the previous post and get back to you tomorrow.
Ok.  I used tapeinst.exe to clear the existing Veritas drivers, i had done that before through the Veritas menu.  I downloaded the drivers, but it didn't seem to do much.  Here is something I found and am working on now.

Veritas said that the identification string of the deivce must match a VSLoadTable stored in the registry, mine does not, so I am working towards a resolution on that right now.  Also the SCSIChanger kernel mode driver fails on start, but according to Veritas would be related to this device string of the device.

Anyone worked though similar issues or have any other comments?
I have the exact same problem. I tried to upgrade to WIndows Server 2003 and still no luck. I am also on Backup Exec 9.1 and have the T891. Please let me know your solution. What does it show in Backup Exec? Do you see strange characters in the name of the Robotic Library or Tape Name?
Tell me about it.  Yes, in Device Manager I have strange characters etc.  Here is where I am at now.  I have a two tape library.  Removing on the tape drives makes veritas see it fine.  Having both in, I have all the same problems.  Now of course I figured ok, bad drive, I replaced the drive same problem.  I can have any drive in there, just not two at once or it causes timeout errors, etc.  I have tried a new library and SCSI card, cable etc, same problem, only one drive at a time works.  I am still working toward a solution on that.  Right now we have the one tape drive in the library functioning for backups, but would like to get both in their working again.

To clarify some things.  I have drive names with squares in device manager.  The library shows up under unknown medium changers when only one drive is installed, if both are in I get the strange characters etc.
Mine only has the one drive in it. I am getting all of the strange characters. I am using a 2944UW SCSI card. I will try the solution above and see what happens.
I had a different card.  I am using a 2944UW now.
I downloaded the 60 day Backup Exec 11D to see if the new versions drivers would see the Library and still nothing.
I forgot to mention I had tried that at the time as well.
