windows xp print jobs stuck in queue

User is printing to a printer that has been working fine. It's a local printer and the jobs are getting stuck in the print queue and never printing.

The only other information I have is that it's a windows xp computer and a Konica color printer.

I often have this problem with computers and I wondered if there was any good advice on dealing with printer drivers on XP.

I had the user reboot. The printer is on and connected via USB. The driver should be fine.

I also see the jobs in the queue and chose document>resume printing from the menu. Still no printing. The printer is just showing ready.

Is the a permanent or an occasional problem? Go to Services in Administratoe tools and make sure that the Print Spooler Service is Started and is set to Automatic. Tyrr Right clicking and Restarting the Print Spool Service
try clearing the print q instead of 'resume', 'cancel all documents'.  If wont clear reboot pc and printer at same time.
If still jamming up the Q when print, delete/re-add the printer.  It should automatically install the correct drivers

This has been a recurring problem. I'll try the suggestions. Thank you.
To quote from the link given below:

If the Print Spooler service fails when printing, when Windows starts or it can not be restarted, the usual reason is that one or more printer drivers is defective.

This page has some very good advice on how to clean up installed printer drivers so that you can reinstall the printer and hopefully correct your problem:

What are you tying to print?  Maybe you are sending too large of a print job, and your printer does not have enough memory for the transfer from the pc to the printer.  You might need to install additional memory if you print allows it.
mrmyth, any feedback?

Tomorrow morning I'm going to try to solve this problem with the client over the phone. I'll report back asap.

I couldn't solve the problem over the phone so I sent a tech out to the site. He fixed it in minutes. Said he went into printers and faxes and went to the printer properties and just changed it to another driver that was there.

mrmyth, if you solved your problem yourself, then you should go to Community Support (click on the link at the top right of the page labeled Support) and enter a zero point question asking that the question be deleted (or made into a zero point Previously Answered Question if it contains information possibly useful to others) because you solved it yourself.  Your points will be returned to you.  See this link for more info:

I answered my question myself.  What do I do?
