Windows XP hangs on "Loading your personal settings."
I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Z61T and when i boot up, the system hangs on the "Loading your personal profiles" dialog box. When that happens, if I power off and then reboot, sometimes I can boot up; other times not. I am running Windows XP service pack 2, and I have not experienced this problem on other Thinkpads. Anybody have a solution?
If you are on a domain, you may need to manually set your DNS server in order for it to log in properly. If your DNS server is say 192.168.1.10, you must set it manually under the TCP/IP properties of the NIC used to connect to the network.
No, I am not connected to a domain. The problem seems to be intermittent. I have even removed Symantec AntiVirus, as someone told me that might be a problem. I have also removed files from the temp folder in my profile so it wasn't so big. That hasn't helped either.
This only seems to happen on this Thinkpad. I haven't seen it on any other computers i have.
Press ALT+TAB to switch to the Restoring Network Connections task. Note that the task will still be hidden after you activate it.
Press ENTER to confirm the error message. Note If you do not see a Restoring Network Connections task when you press ALT+TAB, you are experiencing an issue that is different from the one that is described.
Sounds to me like the laptop is hanging on login looking for a mapped network drive that it cannot find so it has to time out before it can continue to load.
