Failure to Initialize Video Stream

My OS is Windows XP Pro SP/2.  I started up Sonic Cineplayer last night and it would not recognize any of several DVD's I have.  The error message given was failure to initialize video stream.  The help file gave a list of suggestions, the first two of which were to make sure I have the latest Windows Media Player and DirectX versions.  I went online to try and download Windows Media Play ver 11 since I have ver 10.  It would'nt install.  I checked my dxdiag and it was for the first time to me very hard to work through all of its exceptions to reaching the main screen.  I couldn't download DirectX 9.0c either.

I thought it might be something in IE 7, so I uninstalled it and IE 6 doesnt solve the problem.  What other things can I try?  Thanks for any suggestions.

What happened when you tried to download/install directX and media player?
Heres a link for directX full offline install
http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/directx.html

Heres media Player 11
http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/mediaplayer11.html

This says the same sort of stuff, but also some other things to try.

Oh, and here are the WMP Codecs if you need them.

I've tried to download and install WMP, DirectX, and IE 7 and always get an IE message saying its encountered an error and can't complete the process.

Any other suggestions?

qz8dsw, thanks for your final comment.  I do have bigger problems.  I decided to go through the drill with Microsoft support.  Final resolution was to re-install Windows.  Not my idea of a good time.  lol

Thanks again for your help.

Na, not fun.
No worries.

I suggest getting good AV and anti spyware on your machine now it's clean.
