HP printer driver mistakenly states system doesnt meet minimum requirements

Hello, I have an old laptop with Windows XP on it and 256mb ram. I wanna connect and HP Deskjet 6943 printer to it via USB, i connected it and started loading the driver application, after a few minutes and error indicates that the installation program detects 255mb ram and the needed amount is 256mb and so it doesnt continue and i cant install the drivers. i dont use the full application driver versioin with all the HP programs but only the basic drivers and even though the manual addresses the problem in which the wrong memory amount is indicated it doesnt suggest how to solve it...
Does a computer with 256mb ram really cant install hp printers ?? i mean, when minimum requirements are noted on something does it actuaqlly mean you have to have the amount of memory available and not just installed in the computer, because im sure that no matter how many programs i close, only the windows takes some of the 256mb ram i got so i will never really have them all free...

Thank you.

And yes - if the driver requires 256mb ram - then at least it will not work properly - and at worst - it will not install...

Well I already visited that site before, and i know it doesnt find any drivers for the 6943 but it doesnt find it in product search, so we can credit the fact that there is no driver listed for that spesific model to HP's genious website.... anyway, i had some experience with them so i know the first of all the 6940 drivers will work for 6943, and second i do have the original CD so the drivers are ok.... anyway it just seems unlikely that a certain program requires X amount of ram, and even if you have that amount it wont work, i doubt manufacturers mean that if the listed requirement is 256mb i should have more just because the computer itself uses some...

If you ignore their "minimum requirement is 256Mb ram" - then what is the point?

They must have a basis on which to quote this on. If it wasn't an issue - then they wouldn't say it!

The point that I was making is that HP regularly update their drivers - normally when they discover that a lot of people are having issues (and the fact that they seem to encourage active development) with the current ones - so sticking to the original drivers is probably not a great idea - especially when HP are noramlly so good...

You could try manually installing the .inf file (download the basic installer first)

Extract the file with WinRAR (r-click, select Extract to...) then point the driver update wizard to "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install" then select "All Devices", then click on "Have Disk". Locate the .inf file from the extracted folder - and it should install for you.

well thank you for that suggestion i will try that.

as to the minimum requirements comment i made before, what i ment was that normally home computers have either 256, 512 and so on ram sizes, so it just sounds a bit silly that when a product indicates 256 ram as it's minimum requirement it actually means that i should have more (which usually means 512)...

Anyway from my explerience with HP's support and website i wouldnt say its usually so good... but maybe thats just me... the fact that this product exist in the product section but doesnt in the driver section is strange and actually not the fist time i've seen this...

p.s
The computer in question isnt not with me right now so ill be able to check your suggestion only later.
thank you.

That's fine - perhaps the "installer" requires 256mb ram - rather than the actual "driver" (e.g. a .inf and .sys file - and perhaps some associated .dll's)

Microsoft Windows XP is the sixth release of the NT series of operating systems, and was the first to be marketed in a variety of editions: XP Home and XP Professional, designed for business and power users. The advanced features in XP Professional are generally disabled in Home Edition, but are there and can be activated. There were two 64-bit editions, an embedded edition and a tablet edition.
