Outlook 2000 freezes after startup

Outlook 2000 is crashing shortly after starting. The PC is running Windows XP, and is currently set up as a POP3 account. This occured after the user accidently attempted to move around 800 e-mails w/attachments (mostly under 1mb) to the deleted items folder.

Tried using the /safe switch, also tried renaming a few of the .dat files (frmcache, outcmd, etc)
Tried doing a detect/repair, and no errors were found.

Outlook was not starting at all, but now it will start, and begin importing e-mails and after about 20 seconds it crashes. I am working with a remote user, so it may take some time to test fixes.

Will give that a shot. My experience has been primarily with Exchange accounts and with outlook 2003, is the default for POP3 accounts to use .pst files? Also, does 2000 have profiles, like the later versions of outlook? Will let you know when I get some results.

user was unable to find a .pst, had them search for *.pst and also make sure hidden files and folders were unchecked. Their manager may end up replacing PC regardless (apparently for other issues I haven't been asked about) so this may end up not getting resolved properly.
