How do you add a gradient to a vector graphic in Photoshop CS2?

How do you fill the vetcor shape with the gradient?  Sorry, I haven't done this before.
did you create the vector shape in photoshop?

If you didnt the best option is going ot be to create a new layer above it and create a gradient of the same shape above it.  (using the color selection tool as i stated above.)

I did create the vector in Photoshop - but I need the gradient to be a vector graphic too so it will be scalable like the vector shape.
