Control Panel
Add/Remove Programs
Add/Remove Windows Componets
Click on Application Server and click Details
Check Internet Information Services and click OK, Next

The default path for the default website is C:\InetPub\wwwRoot (place your website files here)
manage your web server with c:\windows\system32\inetsrv\iis.msc

I do realize where the web directory would reside on my IIS box for a web based application. Here's a clear description of my situation. I have a web based application called (x) that is only accessible from inside my network. I wish to allow access to the resource from home via the web. I think the problem is I have no virtual directory for this application.

Actually there was much more to my solution than this but I figure it out with the aid of a paid consultant.
