Proplem with fonts in windows XP /2K3
Dear all,
I have a problem with the font. I need to type Japanese characters, so I use Windows IME as well as the Asia font provided with Windows. The problem is, in my word processing application (MS Word), I need to use the Arial font, but for Japanase characters, I cannot set it to Arial, I can only set it to Arial Unicode. with the same process, my colegge use Arial well, and she hasnt Arial unicode. So, we have trouble when I try to send my document to her.
How can I do to use Arial?

Let me explain yoy about unicode
Arial is a "localized" font, that means that have the normal letters.
Chinesse or japanesse people have other classic letters
In past times, the system codes for letters were divided, american people have 255 charracters max with normal letters and oriental people have their own
Unicode is a system with much more than 255 character, so we can use the same system to have normal and oriental letters
Thats the reason why you both have to use Arial unicode, because if one of ou take your own arial, will be shown as your own country system, and that is what we dont want.
So, use Unicode, my friend

In fact, I know what's unicode. (I'm a VC++ programmer, so I have to know about this).
the problem is, when I use WinXP, the Arial font should be natively unicode. (in MS word, you can choose Arial, and you can type any language.
But in fact, in my friend's PC, I cannot use Arial to type Japanese character. And her colleague can type all Japanese characters without need "Arial unicode". And when my friend send a document to her colleague, her collegue can read nothing (she doesnt have Arial Unicode). When I say Arial Unicode, I mean the name, that you can see in the font drop downlist. in my Laptop, it's "Arial". But for the PC, it's "Arial Unicode". I dont know What does unicode mean, because XP's font should be natively unicode.

wow, is there anyone who can help me ?
You are not getting this, hva123456, are you?
As spanishPC says - "Arial" is a LOCALISED font
Arial Unicode allows you to use more than the STANDARD NUMBER of characters.
What is the objection to copying the missing font from C:\Windows\Fonts to the other?

My problem is , most of my friend's collegue has Arial, and my friend has Unicode version. her collegues (even her boss) can not read my friend's document. And I can not install fonts to around 20 PCs in her office. the better solution is make my friend similiar to the others. all she need are having others ability to read her document.

more info, I have a work around : embed the font in the doc file, but I'm searching for a better one.

You have to use Arial unicode MS... - not plain Arial.
