IBM Think Pad and 8611 Error Code

The computer is an IBM Thinkpad 600L Type 1645 The computer lights up, it identifies memory as 130496 and gives an error message 8611.

The computer then beeps three times and goes to a screen with a picture of a lock if I press any key three times I get three xxx and then a circle with a hand it looks like a cross walk sign not to walk.

After that nothing. Any hints what is wrong. I googled the 8611 error and it is a system bus error. Whatever that means. I gather that it might have something to do with the mouse or pointing device.

Any ideas? Your help would be appreciated. Could it be a bad keypad?

Hi guys,

Thanks for your help. I get the impression this is not going to be an easy fix and is probably a dead issue. It is my grand daughters computer and I have been able to rescue it a few times for her.

I am retired so I have plenty of time to tinker with it. At any rate you have given me enough information to either fix it or make it really dead.

Since everyone that answered gave me some worthwhile information I am going to split up the points. There is probably no reason to keep this open any longer.
