I need a agent that will parse through all documents in a database and give me a count of the ones created in the year 2006.  If I did not create a date field on my form, is there a way to tell when the document was created?

try the below code and change it according to ur needs:
Dim session As New NotesSession
      Dim db As NotesDatabase
      Dim view As NotesView
      Dim doc As NotesDocument
      Set db = session.CurrentDatabase

      Set view = db.GetView("vue")
      Set doc = view.GetFirstDocument
      While Not doc Is Nothing
            If doc.Hasitem("YourDatefield") Then
                  If Year(doc.YourDatefield(0))="2006" Then
                  'Do the need full
                  End If
Elseif  Year(doc.Created) = "2006" Then 'Created will give the Date of creation of the document. Or u can use Modified aswell.
                  'do the need full

            End If
            Set doc=view.GetNextDocument(doc)
      Wend
