I'm running Office 2007 on Windows XP Pro and Outlook crashed today for me with the following error:
Errors have been detected in the file c:\documents and settings\mikeb\local settings\applications\data \microsoft \outlook\o utlook1.os t. Quit Outlook and then use the inbox repair tool (scanpst.exe) to diagnose the repair the errors in the file.
But, I did a search and can't find scanpst.ext , so I'm not even able to ge into outlook.

scanpst.exe is typically located here:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Mapi\1033
the 1033 is the local ID for your location (1033 is the US, so if you are not in the US, then it will be a different number, but you will be able to browse to it by going to "C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Mapi\" and looking at the folders there.)
Hope this helps!

The OST Integrity Check Tool (Scanost.exe) is installed when you install Outlook and is located at:
drive:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\Locale ID folder - where LocaleID is the locale identifier (LCID) for the installation of Microsoft Office. The LCID for English - United States is 1033.

For now, simply do a search of your hard drives for scan* to find it.
Unless this is a company machine, where you might need assistance from an IT person to help locate your .pst file or .ost file. Isn't the .ost file part of an exchange database.
Might want to look at this also.
