I bet Informix has some embedded SQL possibilities for the C programmer. Howerver if that langauge is a proper programming language it will be specially suited for DB programming. So will have to write a lot of C code to just replace on of the 4 gl lines.

Not acceptable? Well maybe not, but why do you believe there is an easy migration path. Just tell me how many would like to to that migration? And who should earn his/her living with such a specialiced tool. 4GLs are there for  reason and if there is a DB behind it's obviously for easy building of DB applications. C is not easy to you in any way.

I bet nobody knows of any "tool" for doing this translation. It's your head you have to use.
