Restore SQL Database from Veritas Backup

My network admin configure veritas backup on sql server. now when it try to restore the backup it shows VNBU0-1536-2300

and it says the device is offline. what is this format and how can i find where in veritas is my sql server database backup.

Ok,

first of all you need to get the device back online. Restart the services to do this.

You need to put int he tape containing your backup and catalog it (right hand click on the tape and catalog) This will tell the system what is on the tape.

Then you go to the restore jobs section, find the catalog that pertains to that tape, expand it and find the sql backup you need. Select this and restore.

I always redirect my restores to another location and then copy them over myself. This way I can make sure all services that could be using that file have been stopped.
