asked on

more than one ehternet adapter and online continuity

Hi,

I have a new Dell server (app/db) with two ports on the on-board ethernet adapter and two ports on the slot-in additional adapter. To maintain the online continuity, should I set 4 different ip address for each or ...?

I tried same ip address for each, and got error message from Dell server manager saying "they're not unique" and not allow to proceed further.

Thank you.

Are you using any NIC teaming software?  I would probably recommend it.

Hi all,

I'm just starting set up the server by using the Dell CD that come with. And I stoped at the networking screen, so I should skip the IP address part by selecting DHCP for now, and install the teamNIC software later when the OS is installed? Then put in IP addresses within the teamNIC software?

Thanks.
Yep, that will do the trick.
Hi,

Just letting you know that I had problem with DELL server on the installation from the volume license CD. Finally figured out with external floppy drive for the RAID driver.

Now, it's the time to try on the NIC teaming part. Will let you know and assign the points.

Thanks.
AnthonyP9618,

I tried to give you 10 points for the quicker response; but EE doesn't allow so. I hope you don't mind I give it all to aissim since he gave me the link to get the detail instruction to set up the teamNIC.
Nope... not at all.  Good to know you got it working.
