Two data tranfer questions

Two questions: is there a way of connecting a sata drive and a ide drive to facilitate transfer of data?

What would be the easiest way to transfer data from the harddrive of a laptop to a new drive, with the old drive out of the laptop(it's trashed)?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

For Q1, simply connect both drives in a system that supports both ide and sata drives, or transfer the files over a network, of course that depends on what kind of data you are planning to transfer.
For Q2, get a 2.5" to 3.5" adapter and connect the laptop drives to a desktop and transfer the files there, OR, get a 2.5" drive USB/Firewire enclosure to put the old laptop drive into.
