sql backup asap

I have aneed to backup sql databases I installed veritas 11 and ran the backup on teh databaees I needed. It ran for 15 hours and then verifyran and then said corrupted data. I am running them individually now. My question is I am on the sql and see a backup option in sql How do i back this up soI can restore if there is a issue, also shoudl Istop sql when the veritas is running?

I would use these instructions: http://www.sql-server-performance.com/ss_creating_backup_jobs.asp
And created a job within Backup Exec to backup the .bak file from the servers location.
If you're having problems with the Backup Agent running backup on a database, then this would be a good way to get a backup of the database. At the same time, if you ever have to restore your database
you can restore directly from the SQL manager and you still have copies of older databases if you need to parce data from it in the future.
