These jobs have been running ok for years.  They just started failing with this error message.  i have tried to format the disk. backup the database to a different location.  Nothing seems to be working.  I keep getting the error messsage below.  Any ideas

The backup data in 'Customer_Complete_Backup' is incorrectly formatted. Backups cannot be appended, but existing backup sets may still be usable. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 3266)  BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 3013)  The media family on device  is incorrectly formed. SQL Server cannot process this media family. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 3241)  VERIFY DATABASE is terminating abnormally. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 3013).  The step failed.

Your backup operations probably get blocked by another process, or something wrong with the system. In such a situation SQL Server gives the same error in addition to media corruptions. I'd try my last chance reinstalling the server, if I didn't know what was different on the system, blocking backup operations.

If the case is media corruptions, you may find the workarounds on msdn :

Good luck =)
