have been told by autocadd tech that something on the server is making the
the license manager point to the wrong location for the license file. ( and that's a 'windows' issue that we will need to resolve -  problem defined:
 - UNABLE TO RUN AUTOCADD 2007 FROM WORKSTATIONS (pc's that look to the server
for licensing - we have a 3 user license from autoCadd)
(simply placing the license.lic file in the directory it's looking for does not resolve)
( btw, this is a new server installed less than 6 mos. very little software on server. have successfully
installed other graphic programs that run a license service on the server)
( lmgrd.exe fails)
- here is the error message:Flexible License Manager status on Fri 3/23/2007 15:33

[Detecting lmgrd processes...]
Error getting status: Cannot find license file.
The license files (or license server system network addresses) attempted are
listed below.  Use LM_LICENSE_FILE to use a different license file,
or contact your software provider for a license file.
Filename:      C:\flexlm\license.dat
License path:  C:\flexlm\license.dat
FLEXnet Licensing error:-1,359.  System Error: 2 "No such file or directory"
For further information, refer to the FLEXnet Licensing End User Guide,
available at "www.macrovision.com"

It's possible that they were referring to this issue:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924032/

To see if that's the case, you can uninstall that security update temporarily and see if AutoCad will run properly.  If it does, then you need to reinstall the security update and read further about how to work around the issue.

thanks for suggestion jefff - but the MS05-16  issue is not affecting 03server sp1. according to their site
( http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS05-016.mspx )

I didn't realize the server wasn't up-to-date with critical updates, I would have taken care of that before posting -
 - i WILL be updating to sp2 this evening and report back.

No, but it affects Windows XP SP2, which may actually be causing the problem since that is what you are trying to connect from.

- this problem has been resolved simply by re-installing the software/service. the first vendor tech was misleading insisting that there was a problem at a deeper level.
thanks,

Somehow it's always easier to blame the "other guy".  I hate when they do that.

Glad you got things going!
