actionscript animating motion path

is there a way where i can use actionscript to attach a movieclip to a line drawn with the pen tool on the stage and have it move along the line?

i am having some ideas of working on some animations which has a set of movieclips that will move in a irregular motions and i thought if i could have them attached to a line which i had drawn(or rather defined) on the stage, then things could be easier?

i am not really sure if this is even possible but if not, what are some other ways i could do this?

thanks. :)

you could do it with the tween class if you wanted to plot each point that the clip will travel to..but you would not be 'attaching' to the line..but following the same co-ordinates.
what the class can do and how to use it is described well here..

you can tween motion along a path like your line.
Open Flash Help..click..Using Flash/Creating Motion/Tweening Motion along a path

Tells you how to do it along with illustrations and an example.

i mean using actionscript and not manually on the stage.

but you said >>a line drawn with the pen tool on the stage and have it move along the line?<<
why do that and then want to use actionscript?..when there is an established method to do this.

I think this has come from the 'Let's ask a difficult question because we can' .. Handbook

this is because there are a lot of many different movie clips i need to load from the library to attach to the path. and these movie clips are loaded randomly to attach to the line to move.
