combobox text under mask

I have a combobox in a mask, it works fine except the text on the actual combobox (not the drop down) does not display. I've had this bug before with text fields and I know that you have to embed the font and implement the mask with AS...but how do you do this with the combobox?

go into the component with the edit symbol icon..
Flash UI components/Component skins/Global skins/Flabel..unlock and select the textfield..
then in Properties panel..character/embed all characters..or just the ones you are using in the combobox

It wont let me edit the component and I dont see an 'edit symbol' icon. When I double click it, I get a prompt telling me to create an instance of it as a symbol. So I make it an MC, but still can't get 'into' the component.

the edit symbol icon is the red circle yellow square green triangle icon next to the percent box..top right
you can't double click any components as they are locked.. but you can sneak in through the hidden door :)
Just follow the steps in my first post.

I see whats going on..I tried it in mx before I gave my first comment..and it worked fine.
In flash 8 the buggers have locked the components completely..you can only access them through the properties/ parameters panel or the component inspector window..and neither of those lets you get at the insides.
embedding the font in the style declaration with actionscript doesn't work..so the obvious (and only) solution seems to be..
create a label in a separate textfield and drop in on the combo box. . very high tech :)
