Run Antivirus from CD & Bypass Operating System ?

Windows XP Media Center...
Not being able to go to Safe Mode to clean Virus - brontok.e

I Installed brontcli.exe brontgui.exe , NOD32 , Kaspersky...
but to no avail.. I need to be able to go to safe mode...
whenever I try it, it hangs on mup.sys and stays there for more than 20min...
there is a disk activity... but I doubt it should take that much....
I tried Trinity Rescue Kit... but didnt work...
I m looking for an Antivirus that would be loaded from a CD and bypass the operating system,,,

please help.

PS. the system is starting in normal mode... but I am unable to clean the viruses.
