How does Outlook know what email you have downloaded

Please look at question:

I am re-asking the question to add more points

Outlook must know what emails have been downloaded, my question is what file or setting tells it this

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Only files related to this are the pst file and %USERPROFILE%\App Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.srs.
Both files are changed after checking for email.

I did synchronise the locations Qlemo had advised but still Outlook was not aware.
I have now given in and use Email duplicate remover which is slow and takes much administration.

Eudora does work correctly at this and its so much better as each mailbox is a seperate file and therefore when synchronising it is not one huge mailbox file but just the ones that have changed.
Shame it became outdated and bulky.

I find it hard to believe there is no solution for Outlook,  the indusrty standard email program that is rubbish a synchronising

Dam Microsoft :-(

Thanks for all your input, administrator please close

I did research and found two registry keys, which change when receiving email:

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\SQLM\
       SQMReceivedNumber
       SQMReceivedDate

Maybe copying those keys would help ...

Hang on Admin, have not verified the propsed solution only posted 05.10.07 by Qlemo

As it stands it does not apear to work, as importing the reg from the PC to laptop and then the synchronising Outlook, it still downloads a large ammount of emails.
But I would like to investigate it further as I will probably award half the points for your accurate help on this

Qlemo this does not work nor does importing the whole of the Outlook reg folder where you specified.
Any other ideas.

Programs like ViceVersa claim to be able to sync Outlook, has anyone ideas of this:

I will try the trial

Sorry, I'm out of ideas now. I can only guess the secret is burried in CLSID / mail profile registry - I could not find any related write action here.

My recommandation: Use either IMAP or only download eMail headers. This way, you can select new mails ... Not as you like, since there is no automatism.

I have been using Syncing.NET for Outlook for some months now
it eats up memory and creates duplicate contact and takes a long time to setup
It does however work
