Web Server Access

Hello, I have just installed SugarCRM open source that works as a web application. I installed it on my machine where I can access by typing its local IP address via firefox. I was wondering if colleagues of mine can also have access to this application that sits on my computer. If so, what do I need to do to grant access to them via the internet? Thanks.

Is your machine is in the Internet (has external IP address)?
If so, just give them your IP address.
Also please provide more details:
- is your machine inside LAN?
- if you are in a LAN, does it have access to the Internet and by what means (router, dsl or whatever)?
- are your collegues in the same local network as you?
- are you just testing SugerCRM or want to use it in production?
and one more question: what Operating System are you running? :-)

Thanks for the quick reply. Here are the answers:

- I connect to the internet via ADSL with a modem/router. I have a dinamic IP address;
- I have a very small home LAN with 2 computers;
- I am using windows XP professional;
- My colleagues are not in the same LAN, actually they are also connected at home and in deferent countries;
- I am currently testing SugarCRM with the intention of using it in production.

Ciao.
If your DSL/router supprots service publishing you may configure it to publish (also known as http port and sent your external IP address to your friends.
If your router doesn't support it you should have some external server where you may setup VPN connection and ask your friends to setup VPN there, after that they will be able to connect to your server.
I have two extra questions:

1. Do I need to have a static IP address?

2. By publishing my IP address, am I being more vunerable i.e. lowering my security settings?

I have a Netopia modem/router that I need to check if it allows me to do what you suggested.
