Help with redirection, possibly DNS?

I have a server that is called Achilles that I run a help desk system on.  If you go to your web browser (internally) and type in http://achilles it takes you to the homepage of the software package.  If you go to http://achilles/helpdesk it takes you to the helpdesk package.  I want my users to either type in helpdesk or support in their web browser and it automatically take them to http://achilles/helpdesk

How can I do that?  I was thinking DNS, but there is no way to put a /helpdesk on the back of a name.

The problem is that I will need to go to that main index as an administrator.  If it automatically redirects then I can't manage it.
Rename the index page index2, then browse to that page as an administrator.
