Help with redirection, possibly DNS?

I have a server that is called Achilles that I run a help desk system on.  If you go to your web browser (internally) and type in http://achilles it takes you to the homepage of the software package.  If you go to http://achilles/helpdesk it takes you to the helpdesk package.  I want my users to either type in helpdesk or support in their web browser and it automatically take them to http://achilles/helpdesk

How can I do that?  I was thinking DNS, but there is no way to put a /helpdesk on the back of a name.

If they don't need to go to that main page at all, on your Achilles server, change your index (or whatever functions as it, depending on what you're using) to forward or header to http://achilles/helpdesk?

The problem is that I will need to go to that main index as an administrator.  If it automatically redirects then I can't manage it.

Rename the index page index2, then browse to that page as an administrator.
