Hi,

a friend is asking me about problems with "the sims 2", since I ain't a gamer I thought you could help me with it:

on a windows me (1.2 Ghz pentium 4 and 256 ram) box it seems the game and its expansion module were running just fine, then she upgraded to this box:

xp home
cpu Intel Pentium 4 524 - 3.06 GHz - cache L2 di 1 MB.
RAM 512 MB DDRII 533
Hard Disk Serial ATAII - 160 GB 7200 RPM
Display card ATI Radeon 9250 con 128MB dedicated memory
Audio Realtech 6 channels

and now she says that when trying to install the expansion module the process freezes at 50%, and when playing the game after 20 minutes the screen goes all black.

Any idea and help please?

Thank you

Make sure your friend has:

The latest Sims2 Patches installed: http://thesims2.ea.com/update/
The XP SP2 and the latest Radeon Drivers (Catalysts) from ATi: http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html

Installation of Sims2 Expansions like the original Sims Series can be problematic and they should be installed in the order they were released
i.e.:
"The Sims 2 University"
"The Sims 2 Nightlife"
"The Sims 2 Holiday Party Pack"
"The Sims 2 Open for Business"
"The Sims 2 Family Fun"
"The Sims 2 Glamour Life"
"The Sims 2 Pets"
"The Sims 2 Happy Holiday"
"The Sims 2 Seasons"
"The Sims 2 Celebration"

Also check there are no other problems with other games that might indicate a hardware problem like overheating

Thank you.

I was just checking the ea site.

Please be patient as this will take about two weeks, they just left for a vacation, and I can go there, or give them the info when they come back.

No problem - BTW I forgot there is also an uninstaller tool on the EA support site that removes ALL Sims references in the registry etc - just in case ...
