Telehpone service no longer working after installing Netgear WPN824 Wireless Router

I just installed a Netgear WPN824 wireless router at home.  It all seemed to go well until I discovered that my telephone, which is serviced through my cable modem, no longer works.  When I unplugged the wireless router, I got my phone service back.  I didn't see any special instructions for configuring my phone with this device.  Does anybody know what additional setup I need to do to get my phone to work with this router?

A assume here that you mean adsl verses cable.
You should have a splitter that splits your phone line...one goes to the router and one to the phone.

I've been told that I don't need to split it.  The voice line should work as well as the data line.  Something about cloning my PCs mac address - any ideas?

If you have VOIP make sure that the modem is plugged into the WAN port on the router and that the Phone adapter is plugged into a LAN port on the router. Also, you might check with your phone provider and see if there is an issue with this particular router.

Make sure you turn off the routing functionality on the wireless and also turn off dhcp.  It sounds like you have some routing issues.

So, just to make sure I have this straight, you have a cable modem, and Netgear WPN824 wireless router plugged into the cable modem, and then some kind of VOIP gateway or something plugged into the wireless router, and then a telephone plugged into that, is that correct?

And, just to clarify, if this is correct, what kind of VOIP gateway do you have?

There was a patch I needed to download from Netgear. After doing that, everything worked fine.
