SQL Express 2005 Compatible with SQL Server 2005?

We are on a dedicated server and have a shopping cart (VP-ASP) that runs on a SQL database which is located on a separate shared server.  We want to move to a different dedicated server at a different hosting company, but they do not offer shared SQL servers, and we would instead have to run the SQL database on the same server our website is running.  Since we don't want to pay the extra money per month for SQL Server 2005 Workgroup or Standard Edition, can we simply install SQL Server 2005 Express edition instead (it's free) and have it work just as our SQL database on the shared server is working? - I don't quite understand why one costs thousands of dollars, while the SQL Express version is free, or what the differences between SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2005 Express Edition are.  We don't want to develop anything; we simply want to be able to connect to our shopping cart database.

Sql Server 2005 express is a limited version. It dosent support many functionalities but if you have small database then you can simply use it. in your case "simply want to be able to connect to our shopping cart database." i think you can use it provided it is small less than 4 GB of size
