PIX 515E - Reboots?

There is no rhyme or reason for this might only happen once a fortnight - the thing reboots - (uptime resets in the ADSM)
Ive set it logging for Critical Events only - Nothing
I cant lower the logging level cause it logs a billion things a second :( and it might not happen for another week or so

The Licences are correct - I'm getting the client to check that its not power related - the whole room is on UPS which is feeding a power bar so I suspect that - but the client is dubious.

What else would force the Thing to reboot / Freeze.

Do you have Restricted, or UNrestricted license?
You need to upgrade the RAM if you have UNrestricted.

Yes, that is the correct method of disabling inspect esmtp. There is apparently some bugs in this fixup that causes all sorts of odd behavior.

Do you have the minimum memory requirements?
Also disable inspect esmtp

from show ver

Hardware:   PIX-515E, 64 MB RAM, CPU Pentium II 433 MHz
Flash E28F128J3 @ 0xfff00000, 16MB
BIOS Flash AM29F400B @ 0xfffd8000, 32KB

Disable inspect Esmtp? OK or the command formally known as "no fixup smtp 25"

Is this correct?

-PIX(config)# policy-map global_policy
-PIX(config-pmap)# class inspection_default
-PIX(config-pmap-c)# no inspect esmtp

Managing Security Policy in a Changing Environment

The enterprise network environment is evolving rapidly as companies extend their physical data centers to embrace cloud computing and software-defined networking. This new reality means that the challenge of managing the security policy is much more dynamic and complex.

Its Restricted.

Ive disabled esmtp - lets see if that make any difference.
Pete LongTechnical ConsultantAuthor Commented:
So far so good though sometimes it is a week - 2 weeks before it happens again

The memory appears to be fine
Ive not had a reply on the Power yet
Ive disabled the inspection of esmtp  - is there a cisco document for this, I cant find anything? :(

Can you think of any other reason it would restart?
lrmooreConnect With a Mentor Commented:
Only other reason I can think of would be failing power supply...
