I just got an Apple Nano as a gift.  I swore I would never buy one, because you have to buy Apple's music.  But, someone said you can play your existing MP3s on it.  I copied a bunch of MP3s to it, but I can't make it play them.  Do they need to be in a particular folder?  Or do I have to install Itunes to transfer them?
Any thoughts?

You have to use iTunes to transfer them but the good news is that you can play all your MP3 files on the Nano!!

Open iTunes, pick add to Library from the File menu and select your Music Folder.
Once it is all imported into iTunes then you can create playlists to sync with the Nano.

Remember, you can also import any of your CDs into iTunes (In the preferences you can opt for Apple AAC or generic MP3 encoding)
