XP Printer issues

Hi Experts,
Got a kind of weird one. Just did a fresh install of XP Pro on a Dell GX280 box. Everything is good, except that the printers listed in the "printers and faxes" don't show correctly. They have the generic windows icon, the one you get when, let say, the file is missing an extention and windows does not know what to do with it. It is white with a windoiws symbol in it. It still says the correct name of the two different printers next to the icons, however when you try to print from them, it says " Page failed to print, operation cannot be completed". This is happening not only to the locally connected printer, but also a networked printer. FYI, both printers where verified to work , through other machines... Can anyone help??

Thanks!  mac

*Are these printers installed locally on Dell or shared netwrk printers?
*Try Start>Run net stop spooler , then net start spooler
*You made a fresh install or repaired an existing one?
*Did you have to skip any file because of a cd read error during installation process?

One is Local, one is a networked one. I did a fresh install.  No skiped files on cd. Stopping and starting the print spooler did not work.

               Hi mac
                    Start>run>regedit
Locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>System>CurrentControlSet>Control>Print>   Under this node delete any key appear (usually with the printer names).
Then please reinstall the printers after restarting your computer. First try to install local one and print a self test page.
