using a Dell PERC5/E Controller in a non-dell server

does anyone have any experience using a dell PERC5/E Controller in a non-dell server?  

i want to hookup dell powervault md1000 SATA enclosures to HP proliant webservers... am I just asking for trouble?

All a PERC  is,is a rebranded LSI OEM controller,with Dell drivers and BIOS,should work fine.
