"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

In my opinion; if you have two sites, each with a server, I would think it justifies a hardware VPN solution that would have the tunnel always available. Then copying files would be done in the same way as on the local network with no need to first establish the tunnel. Though a pair of Cisco routers would be my first choice. If you have a limited budget ,2 Linksys RV042's ( ≈$200 US ea), 2 Linksys BEFVP41's ( ≈$125 ea), or 2 Netgear FVS318's ( ≈$150 ea) will do the job quite nicely.
