LinkPoint API setup with OsCommerce

We found that LinkPoint API contribution setup with OsCommerce required port 1129 to be open on the  server. We woudl further like to know if this port has to be open for both outbound and inbound traffic from the server or only one of these. If only one, which of these - outbound or inbound?
